What is ART - And how do you create true ART?

Art.

What is Art?

Ever since my childhood, I’ve always been passionate about creativity and different art forms.

I simply feel this deep satisfaction and joy - not just while creating but while consuming content.

If you ask friends, family, etc, they’ll tell you this:

I’ve always been obsessed with movies and music.

I can’t describe the feeling when I listen to an amazing soundtrack or watch a movie that completely drags me in - it’s simply incredible.

I almost fall in love with it.

I’m quite the emotional and “feely” type of person.

I’ve always been the first to cry during sad scenes and the one who was most excited and into it during the movie.

This is why I loved certain movies and series so much you could call it obsessive.

I gave so many movies a 10/10, some an 11/10 if I could.

But many people disagreed. They thought the movies and series I absolutely loved were good or okay but not masterpieces (or ART)

And this showed me something:

Art is not objective

Nor is it for everyone.

Art is just what you feel while watching, seeing, listening to or creating it.

This meant one thing:

Everything can be ART.

And I’ve noticed this in my daily life.

Ever since I got deeper into personal Growth and Spirituality; I’ve made it a habit just to stare at things in my daily life and see their beauty.

When I walk to school (takes about 25 mins) I just look at bushes, trees, clouds, the sun, the sky and feel this deep love inside me.

They are ART. Everything is.

One of my favorite people, Leo Gura from Actualized.Org described it perfectly:

“If you knew just how beautiful life is, you couldn’t live normally. You’d be on your knees crying about everything”

And man is he right.

Sometimes, I’ll just stare at one thing for 5 minutes. When you become more conscious of life’s beauty, your range of what art is expands.

But most people don’t do this.

For them, ART is only ONE painting, ONE movie, ONE song out of a million.

Everything that doesn’t completely surprise them and blow their mind?

That’s just media.

But you gotta realize: Everything is beautiful. Beautiful ART.

Your mind tells you it isn’t - Why?

Because that’s actually how your mind survives.

Like we’ve said before, if you knew the beauty of everything, you couldn’t live normally.

So your mind made a compromise:

Some things can be art but only the rarest and most beautiful pieces.

This means you’re happier in life but only sometimes (so you can continue living a “normal” life)

But I want you to know something:

Everything around you is art.

Your hands, Your wall, Your neighborhood, The trees in your Backyard - that’s ART!!

Everything is perfectly imperfect.

Notice how beautiful they are and I can guarantee you’ll sit there for many minutes in awe.

Now, not even 3 months ago, I’d be strongly against this.

I’d call it

  • “a waste of time”

  • “boring”

  • “useless”

since I was still more logically minded.

And this might be you right now!

So I want you to understand:

Reality is constructed by YOU.

Your point of view decides everything!

  • how happy you are

  • how beautiful life is

  • what ART is

So, expanding it is gonna expand your range for all of those.

And for those stuck in daily life, focused on results, stress and work; it’s gonna be really helpful!

I gotta tell you:

Deciding to take it slowly to see the beauty of life and do ART - it’s been amazing.

By becoming more conscious of the beauty of daily life, you start to understand how to use this.

Not just to get happier, and get a clearer mind, but to CREATE ART YOURSELF.

Because, ultimately, Art is about taking certain parts of life (people, sights, nature, feelings) and multiplying and utilizing them.

Think about it:

What’s your favorite art piece?

I’m gonna bet it portrays

  • beautiful nature

  • human emotions

  • human experiences

in a way that’s stylistic, entertaining, mindblowing or emotional.

Because that’s what our mind loves!

You resonate with art exactly because of your experiences, desires and deepest love for life, nature and people.

Recently, I started putting “normal” pieces of life into my videos and movies.

And it’s made them way better!

Here I took a mountain and added a fog effect

Here’s me walking next to a cool house, my first short film after a while btw ;)

I think it just brings forth some calm and happy feelings in our brains.

It’s a normal part of life but when we focus on it and portray it interestingly, it becomes ART.

And the best artists know this.

They use our

  • connections

  • experiences

  • daily lives

  • emotions

  • desires

  • loves

  • fears

and channel them all into ONE piece.

Now, we’ve talked a lot of theory now.

But how do you actually CREATE ART?

And while everything is ART, we wanna make content that people resonate with.

So, we’ll be doing exactly that with

The REAL ART Framework

1. Become in love with life itself

That means, become in love with

  • Events

  • Nature

  • Creations

  • Relationships

And…. ART itself.

What you’ll see when you look back in history is:

The best artists were in love with life, but also ART.

  • Picasso was inspired by traditional, African art

  • Da Vinci was inspired by machines in his childhood

  • Michelangelo saw a painting in a church and wanted to do that.

And I can bet you also have a favorite art form that you just FEEL something deeply in.

Before I started making movies and videos, I was in love with movies and videos!

It’s that simple.

Now, that you know which you love, you can:

2. Pick ONE or MULTIPLE Art forms

There’s really no limit to how much you can do.

Experimenting is the fun part of it all.

You can make

  • Skits

  • Music

  • Movies

  • Designs

  • Paintings

  • Drawings

  • Soundtracks

and so much more!

Even though I’m in love with movies, I’ve made

  • 5 songs

  • many photo edits

  • paintings on the side

There’s no limit to what you can do.

A big part of ART is that you can MIX IT!

3. Become OBSESSED

We talked about this on last week’s post.

But at one point, I was literally working on videos all day long.

If you’re so deep into it and inspired (as I am) this is gonna feel amazing.

You’ll work on it with passion daily.

Just make sure not to overwork yourself.

There is such a thing as creative burnout.

4. See and create Art Everywhere

You can not limit yourself with this one. Your brain likes to be perfectionist, I know that.

But here, you’re gonna have to trust your intuition.

"If you have an idea that you genuinely think is good… don't let some idiot talk you out of it.

- Stan Lee

That idiot oftentimes is YOU. Don’t let your “logical” brain (that knows a million times less) ruin your ideas. It’ll make you miserable.

Your ideas will differ from time to time. What only matters is that you execute those no matter what.

Put that effort in and even if it sucks a bit, you’ll be glad. I’ve made over 200 videos in my run and even those that “suck”, I still feel love for.

The fact that it sucks DOES NOT MATTER. You gotta suck to suck less.

5. Choose ART over SPEED

Now, this one is actually a big reminder to myself.

I’m extremely fast when it comes to how fast I make content - but that also means I’m impatient as hell.

And my videos suffered because of it.

I had a time where I’d pump out 5 min long episodes in 2-3 days. While they were okay, they weren’t anything special.

With my content I always want to aim for one of two things:

1: It’s crazy, creative, full of action and amazing.

2: It’s batshit insane and too much, but still goofy and enjoyable.

I would rather have a video be crazy and suck than be boring and average.

So I’ve started training my mind to take it slowly.

I’ve been working on one episode of the series for my friends (talked about that last week) for the past 2 months.

“Isn’t that perfectionism?”

Yes and No.

While you gotta be a bit of a perfectionist to create amazing content…

I’m not sitting there obsessing over every single scene :)

I’m just a visionary when it comes to content and always decide to make stuff that takes ages to edit 😂

It always feels better to choose the long and creative over the quick and average option.

But to balance it out:

6. Make BIG and small projects

I’ve started making small skits and projects again :)

And the advantage of small projects is:

They take little time (especially since I record videos without much editing), have a lot of variety and are simply a lot of fun!

For me it’s like a rule:

The short ones are there so I can stay creative and have fun.

The longer ones are there for me to invest all my passion, ideas and cinematic stories into.

That’s why I’m making

  • minute-long, goofy skits

  • +10 minute long action episodes

at the same time.

And you can apply this to stuff like Twitter too:

Short-form’s there for consistency, variety and fun.

Long-form’s there for depth, exploring amazing ideas and trust.

With only short-form, your audience wouldn’t be that strong.

With only long-form…well, you’d burn out and become inconsistent

Both have their benefits and difficulties which is why I wholeheartedly recommend to do both.

7. Persistence is key

Just before I started writing the first draft for this post, the following happened:

I had this goofy idea for a short skit.

Since last week, I decided I wanted to get back into it.

But while making it, I thought it was too much and dumb.

The voice acting I did was insane and the fight scene was too much 😂

I still kept going though (since I wanted to get some practice in).

And as I finished, I realized…I actually loved it.

This happens often:

While you make art, it might suck, but as you keep going and optimizing, it suddenly becomes beautiful.

I can’t tell you how many times it happened to me.

My best pieces actually sucked for a long time but I just kept coming back for months until they became amazing.

It’s happened so many times and my mind still hasn’t grasped how this keeps happening (shows you doubts exist at all stages)😂

So that’s a lesson:

Stay patient and persistent.

That dumb piece might become your magnum opus ;)

So that’s the framework.

This week’s recommendation is:

See the beauty and art of daily life. Appreciate the structure, color, texture and everything else of objects.

Just enjoy life! Even if you’re busy all day or in the middle of chaos, you can always appreciate quiet and beautiful moments.

Start that daily appreciation of life and I can guarantee it’ll translate into your work, content and ART.

So, that’s it!

I hope you liked this one, excited about what next week will bring.

Have a great week and until next Saturday :)
