How to do the most you can even with little equipment or money
From someone with over 4 years of videomaking on a low budget
For the longest time, lack of equipment and money was my biggest problem.
For years, it was a limiting belief that made me say “I can’t make good videos, because I lack a good PC to edit on”.
Even now, I still get occasional thoughts like that whenever I want to create something.
But after 4 years, I simply know it isn’t true.
Let me show you how much I do with little equipment…
My equipment isn’t the best…
I used to have an amazing camera with my Samsung S8, but the camera simply stopped working.
So now, I use my mother’s old phone from 2017 (now costs 50$).
And it can get tough - whenever I film, I have to transfer files after a while because there’s too little space for filming.
But still, in the last 2 months, I’ve made 13 new short films (1-4 mins).
And it’s simply because I play with the cards dealt to me.
What does that mean?
You gotta use whatever you have in the best way you can (be creative).
I’d rather have it differently and I will buy a new phone soon - but right now, I don’t have that yet.
So, I use my
S8 to edit
mom’s phone to film
computer to transfer files
clothing to play characters
and honestly - when you’re truly passionate about what you do, this isn’t even a problem.
Passion finds a way.

So, enough talk - let me show you how you can utilize your cards to play the best with
7 ways to create amazing content - even with little money and equipment
1. Find the best free/cheap stuff
There’s so much good stuff out there that’s also free - most people don’t even know it!
Now, whatever passion you’re pursuing or just what you like to do - there’s very likely a way to start cheap or even free!
For video/photo editing, I highly recommend the following:
CapCut (the best mobile editing App!)
Photo Editor Polish (so many great free tools)
On PC - Free Chrome Extensions allow you to record the screen
I don’t know how you’d do it for most other things, but there is surely a way to do it cheap or free.
On YouTube and Twitter, you can find various accounts offering amazing free advice (on whatever you wanna improve in).
This of course doesn’t mean you should be cheap with your passion - if it’s worth it to you, you wanna invest in the best stuff.
But if you lack the finances, starting free is better than not at all!
2. Utilize your surroundings
Nature, your room, school, whatever — you can use those freely!
This is especially great for making videos:
If I want a nature film, I just go to my nearest park.
If I want any room, I just do it in my living room (and pretend it’s different rooms 😂)
And there are countless ways to make it seem or look different:
In filmmaking, you can darken your room up, change around furniture, etc.
If you’re creative with it, there are no limits to how you can use your surroundings.
Another example is using trips or travel for films.
A few days ago, I was in a village and made 2 films in the 2 days where I was there.
New locations can always freshen up your content!
Your location might not be ideal, but it sure can be used to create!
3. Be efficient (or hypercreative)
I wrote a whole newsletter about this - it’s probably my strongest skill.
You sit there, just thinking deeply, scramming your brain for ideas.
Once you get an idea, you get up and make it!
I’ve been doing this exact process for so many years that I’m faster in my thinking and creating than almost anyone.
This isn’t a flex - I just wanna show you, how much mastering this process can do.
It’s especially important for you to master the process of creating to the point of hyper-efficiency.
Once you have that, you can just sit in a room, think a bit, see something and immediately get an idea of how to turn it into content.
This of course means budget saved since you can create anything out of anything.

Here’s me with a supposed sword that’s just a stick and a piece of metal
Even in music or writing, there’s always a way to
create effects
overcome limits
be creative with the medium
If you start becoming creative now, you’ll have that skill forever - and you’ll always be able to bring the most out of your possibilities.
4. Consume a lot
Here’s a simple truth:
Creative people need creative fuel.
People love to tell you to quit movies and Netflix, but see it this way:
If all you consume is informational videos and Twitter Gurus, it’s gonna make your content the same as the rest.
No, whatever you pursue, even Twitter, it needs something creative.
When you look at Twitter Creators, you probably love those with style and atmosphere.

This just looks nice

This gives that chill, caffé atmosphere
Now, I can bet, Pang Tun Yang and Sebastian here don’t just watch Dan Koe and read nonfiction books, but who knows ;)
I’ve definitely seen a huge spike in creativity (visually and storywise) in my videos.
I personally recommend a minimum of 30 mins a day watching consuming good content consciously.
You don’t know how big the difference is until you start!
5. Utilize the low budget for comedy
This is an optional point that I personally love doing.
Ever since I started making short films in 2020, I never really bought props for short films. I had an idea and wasn’t gonna wait a few days for deliveries.
So, oftentimes, I just went to my closet and thought “What’s the dumbest/funniest, but most creative character design I could make up”.

This character is literally called “Pillow Head” since he has a pillow as his head (only meant to block the fall, since it’d normally hurt 😂)

An old man costume with a beard made out of a cooking apron
And I adore doing stuff like this - it always ends up really funny and creative.
If you’re like me and love putting comedy into your creations, using your low budget as a joke itself can work really well.
6. Have friends who share your passion
This isn’t easy.
I was personally lucky as hell to have someone as passionate as me about movies in my class.
If you don’t have any, start looking for them.
school
online forums
Discord servers
It’s never that fun to search for new people but trust me, the difference is huge!
Having someone you can
share ideas with
combine your creativity with
have as an actor or cameraman
is a huge difference in any field.
I f*cking love making videos with my best friend - and we discuss our new ideas or make projects together almost daily.
It’s not just amazing and more fun, but also increases your opportunities in any field by a huge factor.
Having someone to share and pursue your passion with is one of the most rewarding and enjoyable things there is.
And for filmmaking, music, etc, you don’t know how many people around are willing to do it with you.
If you have some project or idea and can give people easy instructions, most people are happy to do it!
There are people everywhere just waiting to show themselves and you just gotta look for them!
7. Treat your work like play
This is another point that’s helped me with videos a lot.
You wanna have fun with it - give yourself freedom like a child playing with legos:
experiment with the surroundings
constantly try out new tricks and knowledge
This will make the “building” part of your projects a lot of fun too!
I’ve recently just started implementing visual metaphors into my videos (since I’ve been watching videos about it) and it’s always so cool!
Act like a child using Lego blocks to constantly create new pieces and worlds.
And that’s it!
This one was a bit shorter, but it’s an important topic.
You gotta realize lack of money isn’t as limiting as you think.
Even if a lot of things are hidden behind money, creativity can still bring infinite possibilities with a low/lacking budget.
I hope this helps you get a bit more creative with it ;)
I wish you a great Week and see you next Saturday!
