You can be infinitely motivated - and here's how

5 ways of motivating yourself in an effective (and enjoyable) way

Motivation is a crucial part of content creation.

If you don’t want to do work - it’s gonna be a lot harder.

But what most people don’t know is:

Being motivated all the time is actually pretty easy!

Motivation was my biggest struggle for ages

Both on Twitter and for videos.

For Twitter, the beginning was the hardest, since I only had enough energy to write Tweets - not engage.

And for video-making…

Yeah, it was a huge struggle (STILL IS!).

In 2021, I took a 6-month break from making videos - because I kept procrastinating making one episode.

See,

Motivation doesn’t just mean Excitement for work

Motivation can have 2 definitions:

A: Being excited, able to work for many hours with ease, getting into flow state.

B: Willingness to bust through inner resistance.

You could be excited as hell for work - but if you don’t have the power to fight resistance, you’re probably gonna make a different/new project.

It’s been a struggle of mine - but what can you do against it?

Well, that’s the amazing part!

You CAN get this motivation, an infinite amount of it - and here’s how:

5 ways to be infinitely motivated

Before we really dive deep I wanna let you know this:

There should only be positive motivation or at least almost only.

That means remove all the bullshit negative motivations.

  • Fear of disappointing your family

  • Fear of being poor

  • Fear of loneliness

  • Fear of Boredom

  • Fear of regret

Nothing good comes from it.

If you have any of them, they’ll make sure you never achieve your highest potential.

But don’t worry - you can switch all of these to positive motivation!

Don’t fear disappointing someone - be excited to see someone’s face glow up when you succeed/show them an amazing creation.

Don’t fear regret or boredom, be excited for the fulfillment you get from creating and satisfaction when you look back and improved so much.

See - those feel way better, don’t they?

Because positive motivation attracts positive results.

Keep that in mind - it’ll serve you well if you stay true to this rule!

Now, let’s get started:

1. Allow yourself creative freedom

Ironically, more creative freedom means

  • more procrastination

  • way more inner resistance

  • way more time spent on projects

And you know why?

The thing you actually want to create most is always amazing.

And with that, a lot of struggle comes.

For my best projects, I always take so much longer.

If you wanna compare it:

A normal short video (1-3 minutes) takes me a day or two.

An actual passion project can take me weeks to finish.

Same with my long, very edited episodes.

It could take me a week or two, but the last ones have taken me 2-3 months.

It’s gonna be a struggle, but remember:

This is exactly what’s gonna motivate you.

Quick, pumped-out, average content is unfulfilling in a long time span.

These long projects will make you passionate as hell.

Because see it this way:

If you spend so much more time, love and effort on a project (on every single frame, scene or part) you’re gonna make a creation that’s so much better overall.

I absolutely love the projects that take me the longest.

They’re the hardest to make, but make me so happy when I watch them back.

In the big picture, it’ll take longer than normal to finish that project - but you’ll be satisfied with it for the rest of your life. That’s how powerful it is!

That’s what I wanna preach here:

More time, more work, more struggle for, ultimately, so much more passion.

Allow yourself complete freedom and passion with your work (at least for one of the projects you’re making).

2. Be inspired by your medium, people and life itself

Once you’ve developed yourself far enough mentally, anything turns into motivation.

Did you see a movie that’s amazing in every way? It inspires you to use some of that magic for your own creations.

Did you see a fellow person start their journey? It makes you feel satisfied and fulfilled.

And just the daily feelings and beauty of life are Inspiration enough for many artists.

Especially now during spring (in the Northern Hemisphere), it’s fucking beautiful outside.

A picture I took in a park nearby

The greenness of the leaves, the blue sky, etc. It’s all just beautiful.

We as humans are naturally and genetically engineered to be inspired by nature (and aspects of daily life) - you just gotta put your attention on it.

If you don’t really care about nature it’s likely because you’re caught up in work or too distracted. But when you take a moment to see the beauty, you start noticing it more and more.

Now - what’s the point of all of this?

Well, it’s quite simply to really bring the best out of that motivation - and get aligned with it daily or weekly.

EVERYTHING is a source of Inspiration for your Art.

Every piece of content, sight, interaction or thought in your daily life contributes to your content.

And especially as a creator, you should put value on what you consume and see.

So, that means don’t do all of the following:

  • only watch business and money videos

  • watch content just to distract yourself

  • scroll down Twitter during free time

and replace them with CONSCIOUS CONSUMPTION.

That means be aware of what you’re seeing, what you love about it, what appeals to you visually, music-wise, etc.

This will ingrain all that information you’re seeing in a way that you can use yourself!

Especially visual- and structure-wise, you’ll start seeing some big differences over time.

And I recommend watching content that appeals to you (speaks to your Intuition).

The newest garbage Netflix series may be fun to watch brainlessly, but it won’t do anything meaningful for you.

Find movies, music, soundtracks, books, people that actually excite you and give you a special feeling.

And that can be pretty much anything.

For me, that’s recently been animated movies - weird right?

But I find the visual style, storytelling, music and especially feeling to be amazing.

Find out what kind of medium (and what genre and style of it) appeal to you most and consume the best of it!

It’ll lead to not only better content but also more motivation since you wanna create something that’s just as great as it.

3. Create Beauty

Once you have amazing influences, it’s only natural that you start to create amazing projects.

But you gotta be aware of some principles that’ll make the journey more consistent and more fun overall:

A: Detatchment

Here’s a fun little exercise for you:

The next time you post a thread, a Tweet, whatever - completely detach from any results and feelings.

Why?

Because if you’re like me - you’ve probably been overstimulated with your content.

Whether you notice it or not, you tend to get addicted to the numbers and just the feeling of creating something good.

Of course it’ll make you have a constant dopamine rush but it isn’t sustainable.

It’ll either end with a depression (since your mind needs balance, even with feelings) or in burnout.

So, how do you really detach?

Whenever you create your content, don’t do any of the following:

  • delete a passionate piece because you think it’ll do terribly

  • be worried if it’s gonna do well or not

  • constantly rewrite and delete parts

Instead, put all your attention on just the process of creating.

And whether you face inner resistance and feel bad or good - it doesn’t matter.

You keep creating because you’re detached from feeling good either.

Now, I tried this out recently - and it was so refreshing!

It allows you to fully commit to your work without the need for constant dopamine.

Detaching may seem like it’ll make work boring - but it’ll ironically make work way more enjoyable.

B: Consistency

As much as a platitude it is - Consistency is hard.

It’s not easy to show up daily to put in the same amount of work over weeks, months and years.

And especially during projects, it’s crucial to be consistent.

Why?

Because it allows you to

  • stay in flow

  • keep all information in mind

  • compound skill and motivation over time

And most importantly - it significantly lowers inner resistance.

When you do something one day, you’re twice as likely to do it the next day.

That means getting that streak going will make it a whole lot smoother and faster.

Staying consistent means consistent motivation and consistent results.

4. Set 100% Commitment

Now, this is an important concept I’ve recently learned about.

You’ve gotta go all in on something and here’s why:

If you even go to 99% commitment, it’ll have a negative effect.

Why?

Well, that one percent already means you’re willing not to do it - and that 1% less commitment will turn to 10% in terms of how many times you’ll say “Ehhh, not today”.

If you are 100% in, you’ll feel more free, since you know you’re gonna do it and won’t have to decide for every situation.

I’m gonna use my example to make this easier:

Recently, I had a challenge to make a video every single day (or at least the temporary goal). And every single day - I managed to make a video.

But then I stopped committing to it - and now I haven’t made a video in 5 days.

Now, on the one hand it shows allowing leeway will quickly lead to falling off track - but that’s not the important lesson.

Because the most important thing is to

Have a routine that you can 100% commit to

Making a video a day is pretty crazy.

I thought I could do it because with all the content I’m watching, I should have enough ideas.

Turns out, yes and no.

On one hand, you do have enough potential inside you to make content daily.

On the other hand, making a video daily won’t allow for much creativity.

Even with short content, you gotta give yourself more time to make it more meaningful.

So, instead of doing something that might give quick, average results - do it slower, but more beautiful.

You don’t have to be a content machine (unless you’re starting out. Then I recommend it to build up some traction).

Now - how will 100% commitment motivate you?

Well, in a few ways.

A: Setting a challenge like mine (but sustainable) is just motivating.

B: Knowing you’re 100% committed just feels amazing. You know you’ll never stop and will keep going.

C: You have a system set up that you can build your days around. You know in which daily goal you have to take steps toward.

It will make life more systematic, but also more freeing and fun.

Be sure to leave some freedom though!

There will always be something unpredictable in a day and you need some time just to think or reflect.

But 100% commitment will make a huge difference!

5. Get your life into your hands

Do you have any of the following problems?

  • Struggling with deadlines

  • Late to school/work often

  • Struggling with time management

  • messy room/desk/etc.

If yes, then it’s a case of having taken on an Identity.

I’ve only learned this recently too - my brother’s been reading The Success Principles by Jack Canfield and told me it.

I’ve had a problem with it for many years now - and it’s just a problem of accepting a role.

Since I always focused on my passion and work I enjoyed, I never wanted to tidy up my surroundings or organize myself.

Now, many people, parents and grandparents kept telling me “You’re so unorganized/chaotic” - and the more you hear that, the more you accept that role.

It’s a Self-fulfilling Prophecy.

But you can get rid of that role (to a huge scale).

And it’s by ingraining the total opposite into your brain:

Affirmations.

Now, this might seem weird to you.

I remember I was against Affirmations at first.

But it’s highly effective.

Tell yourself over and over again, day after day “I am an organized person that’s on time” (Or whatever you want to become).

The more you say it and act upon it, the more the role will start to shift.

I’ve gone from being late daily (up to 20 mins!) to being on time and early almost daily.

It does make a huge difference, because:

Every action you take and thought you have is a cause of your Self Image.

View yourself more positively and it will become that way.

And once you start applying this more - it will have a positive effect on the other areas of your life.

And it will generally just make you more confident if you start getting control back.

Affirmations and Changes of roles will have a huge effect!

And that’s it for this week!

Know that motivation is something you can change.

You can always find ways to motivate yourself in positive ways!

Start building that motivation today through whatever speaks to you most:

  • going to your park nearby daily

  • reading books about great people

  • watching inspiring, amazing movies

or whatever else you think works best for you.

Until next Saturday!
