Why Oversaturation is becoming a problem on Twitter - and how to become independent of it

The Authentic Movement brought Fake Authentic People. Here are 10 ways to become independent of Oversaturation.

Have you noticed it recently?

Twitter content is feeling a bit stale, isn’t it?

You hop on it for a few minutes, scrolling down the timeline…

And it’s just a bunch of

  • milestones

  • useless Giveaways

  • the same “authentic” Content

It just feels soulless.

And if you’re like me and felt this - you’re not the only one.

My great friends on Twitter Sebastian and Umme experienced the same thing (at the same time😂):

Is it a coincidence we all felt the same at the same time?

Maybe. But it’s gotten me to observe Twitter and realize:

Most Authentic Content is not “Authentic”

This whole movement has brought many positive changes.

  • Personality is more shown

  • It isn’t about just being a Value poster anymore

and it made Twitter more fun - for a short while.

But now, it’s just another platitude.

See, the most common problem on social media isn’t “too little personality” or “too little value”.

It’s being CONFORMIST.

For every platitude, we have some people who do it amazingly.

Dan Koe was always the “Value” guy and he did it well.

Everyone loves his content.

But the problem arises when everyone wants to be him.

Then you start getting a bunch of the same platitudes and recycled “valuable” advice.

Same for the Authentic Movement.

Great when you have people like Julie Ahrens who post actual

  • controversial positions

  • unique opinions

and who are truly Authentic.

But then (and we saw this happen in December 2022), you start getting a bunch of the same Authentic accounts

  • posting the same “controversial opinions”

  • hating on Cold showers for the 100th time

  • saying “30 followers may be a small milestone, but it makes me happy”

This isn’t being authentic. This is copying others who copy others who are authentic.

So, all of this comes together to show you one Thing:

Oversaturation

Twitter grows every day.

We get a bunch of new accounts posting content daily.

This is great, because it means

  • more customers

  • a growing market

  • more engagement

  • more opportunities

but of course, also more competition and copying.

And if you know any marketplace, you know it’s already competitive to begin with.

And the problem is…people want attention over their competitors so bad.

So, every day, you want to bring out the newest, most freshest and most controversial opinion - all so you can see those likes go up.

That’s the lives of many Creators on Twitter.

What you get is a bunch of fake, inauthentic, soulless creators, hungry for attention who all copy each other.

Now, this sucks and all. But is Twitter really getting oversaturated? And will it only get worse?

My answer…

No.

Sure, it might suck for a while. Maybe a month, a year or two more.

But even with so many competitors and copycats, NO - exactly because of them, there are more opportunities.

Why do you think actual Authentic Accounts are so successful?

Because everyone wants to be like and learn from them.

The key is to become so unique and stand-out that you’re irreplaceable.

Now, for me it was a bit easier with memes. But you still need a bunch of stuff to become truly irreplaceable.

So here are

10 ways to become independent of Oversaturation.

1. Become a CREATOR, not a COMPETITOR

This is one of the most important concepts you can learn of.

And it’s simple:

Competitors are in a position where they compete with other people for

  • likes

  • money

  • attention

this is how you get Oversaturation.

Now, you don’t wanna be in that kinda place.

Because - that’s another RAT RACE in disguise.

No, you wanna be a CREATOR - Why?

A Creator doesn’t have to compete for anything.

He’s so valuable and unique that he’s irreplaceable.

There is always money and attention flowing to him.

Now, this of course is very hard to achieve.

This doesn’t happen in a night, a week or even a year.

You have to build this over a very long time.

Or not - if you’ve already nurtured a skill.

In the month after I started posting memes, I already

  • made my first 50$ online

  • doubled my following

so if you have a skill you can use - DO IT!

If not (like most people), find something

  • A: unique about you right now

  • B: a passion you can dedicate yourself to forever

Those two combined will already make you stand out - use them right!

2. Spend less time scrolling Twitter

“If you spend a lot of time with the crowd, you will become part of the crowd”

- Me, just made that up

This one’s been a simple, but life-changing concept for me.

See, you can’t stand out if all you do is

  • read content the crowd reads

  • make content the crowd makes

No, you’re gonna wanna spend as little time as possible scrolling.

Instead, spend most of your day away from it.

  • take walks

  • contemplate

  • pursue your passion

  • take lessons from daily experiences

  • watch content that genuinely interests you

There are 1000s of ways to grow and cultivate unique thoughts and opinions.

Hell, for most people this is a must with school or work.

And those people always write the best content and grow the fastest!

Exactly because they are in a unique position and generate better insights.

I personally only spend

  • max 20 minutes on Tweets

  • max 30 minutes engaging

and that’s it.

The rest of my Deep Work is spent writing my newsletter and doing research on my passion.

Find out what your mix is and do more stuff outside!

3. Find out what makes you unique

And for this - you need to become truly Authentic.

No fake personality posts.

No fake controversial opinions.

No pretending you’re always happy.

No exaggerating of your normal feelings.

Pure. Authenticity.

This is not easy.

Most people don’t do it because you have to face inner resistance.

I was in the fake Authenticity part myself for months. You love to spam out fake controversial posts and Tweets overexaggerating your feelings.

But being truly authentic means

  • being real with your progress

  • sharing even mediocre feelings

  • not lying or overexaggerating anything

  • a post so controversial you may lose 10s of followers

And with that - you find out what you truly like and feel.

For me, it made me basically abandon my strategy and

  • spend most of my day working on videos

  • only spend an hour daily on Twitter

It might worsen your Growth, but that could be part of your true Authenticity.

Find out what you actually want and you’ll have a lot more potential to stand out.

4. Show your genuine interests

This is not as easy as it seems.

Are you willing to share your passion, even if

  • people don’t care

  • you get little engagement

because if not, you aren’t willing to show them.

This has definitely been a problem I struggled with.

But what helped me was Point 2 (which we just went through):

When you spend less time, you also get more detached from results.

If you just want to get daily practice in, you don’t even have the mental capacity to care about likes.

And this allows you to start posting actual AUTHENTIC Content.

I can tell you, my posts can get anywhere from 2 to 40 likes when I share my genuine interests.

And it’s always important to note:

In the grand scheme of things, one post won’t matter. So won’t 10, 100, or even 1000.

If you got practice out of it and built your reputation, the end results will be mostly independent of likes.

So now the question:

How do you write content about your genuine interests?

Easy - it just takes some repositioning of your thoughts.

Stop thinking you’re writing to everyone, who needs all your value.

Only write

  • what you feel is meaningful

  • what you’d write even without an audience

  • advice you care about (your past self needed)

and of course, this doesn’t mean, you have to stop posting valuable content.

It all just has to come from your heart.

If it feels right - write it.

If it feels weird, run it through the 3 criteria in the bold list above.

Asking yourself is the best test for anything!

5. Constantly be on the move

If your results are fluctuating from one day, week or month to the next, this is natural.

It’s just the cycle of struggle and reward that you shouldn’t get attached to.

On the other hand, be careful of falling off track.

It’s happened to me so many times that I

A: Struggle.

B: Work harder to defeat Struggle.

C: Get Great Results.

D: Get comfortable, put in less work.

E: Struggle again.

There are 2 Principles that have kept me on track:

  • Seeking to become even better with my newest project

  • never working myself to exhaustion, even if my results suck

If you keep these in mind, it’ll be a lot easier (and more fun) to work sustainably.

Constantly being on the move will keep your results stable and your progress on the move.

Be the crazy creative person who’s always working on the next big project or thing!

6. Embrace your crazy side

Everyone one of us is a weirdo.

Even if you think, you’re normal (or had a normal life), there’ll always be someone who finds it crazy.

This story of mine is one of my favorite ones:

It wasn’t really crazy for me, until I wrote it down once and realized😂

So, some crazy aspects of you

  • your unique perspective

  • your style of creating (content)

  • some stories where you struggled a lot

  • some stories where you put yourself out there

And of course - your personality.

There may be similar ones, but never two of the same.

And whatever small “weird” aspect you have, share it!

7. Have a unique Medium

I can tell you,

  • making videos

  • making memes

  • making a space

  • having a newsletter

  • posting your paintings

  • making unique visuals

are all ways to stand out.

That thing about posting paintings wasn’t a joke btw.

My great friend Emerie posts his progressed and finished ones and it makes him unique!

Even with writing, there are so many ways to be unique and use words and letters in creative ways.

Those are all just examples.

You could create images with text!

Find out how you become creative with it and it’ll already make you unique like nothing else.

8. Don’t force, flow

Life is counter-intuitive in every aspect.

Whenever you try to force something, it doesn’t work out.

I made my first Offer back in December and it never worked out.

Then I started posting memes because I had fun and it was an easy way to stand out in the replies and got my first money in the span of 1 week.

It really is that simple:

Offer as much value as you can (in your own unique way and medium) and people will feel inclined to give back.

If people love your work and see you offer something unique, they will pay you for it.

Of course, have a way people can pay you…

But I find this way of making money to be way more satisfying than trying to force an Offer you don’t care about.

Or trying to pitch Ghostwriting with 30 Cold DMs a day…

After all,

What’s the point of making Money online if you can’t do it with what you love?

And that exactly will make you irreplaceable.

Back to Competitors and Creators; This is exactly that.

Would you rather compete with everyone else for another Ghostwriting, Twitter Growth Coaching or something like it?

Or build an Offer that’s so valuable, unique and cool that you get money flowing in naturally?

This of course is extremely hard to achieve and it will take time, but:

At a certain point it will only be normal.

For now, the normal Offer approach might be better for you, but later down the line, you might think of this one ;)

9. Do it because you enjoy it

A hard concept and the reason

  • most people quit

  • most people are mediocre

is because they fundamentally don’t enjoy it.

It’s not easy making it enjoyable.

It took me 2 months of writing to start enjoying Twitter.

Before, I was

  • anxious

  • bored of it

  • not fully into it

and only once I started Memes was when I grew a lot but also started enjoying it more.

See, I’ve seen so many of my friends quit because they

  • → got bored

  • → fell off track

  • → completely stopped.

I never did because I enjoy showing up daily.

Of course, there will always be

  • fears

  • doubts

  • sicknesses

  • terrible days

that’s unavoidable - but if you enjoy it, not giving up becomes a lot easier.

So, How do you enjoy it?

Easy.

Drop all the bullshit that you hate doing and that doesn’t help anyways.

So,

  • engaging 3 hours a day

  • spamming Cold DMs

  • Chasing Growth

is most likely what makes you miserable (Not everyone, but most).

Replace all of that with meaningful work

  • pursue your passion

  • write content you care about

  • engage when you actually want to

I made this switch in December to January.

And trust me - it feels so much better and light-hearted.

You get to create because you actually want to, not because you want to keep your analytics high.

In fact - mine suck and I’m happy😂

Start making this switch and you’ll make hard work feel like play.

It’ll be easy to show up daily.

Of course, it’s important to go out of your comfort zone daily - but fundamentally, you gotta enjoy this to do that consistently ;)

10. Reject Easy Growth

I find spamming Giveaways, milestones and “Let’s connect” posts to be the laziest form to grow.

Yes, you can do it right (like anything), but most people use it to satisfy their addiction to Numbers.

What comes out is a bunch of soulless, boring accounts with 10k inactive followers and 10 likes per post.

Great, you have a big number and maybe you make some cash with it - but deep down, you’re not satisfied at all.

This is setting you up for burnout, boredom and quitting.

Instead, find a way to grow sustainably.

My analytics are one example.

But there are definitely people who do it better than me😂

I recommend you go check out some accounts you see grow like this and see what they do right.

Don’t just copy, mix it with your own strategy.

Find the best way to balance your Growth and Wellbeing!

It took me a couple of months, so don’t worry if it takes some time!

So, that’s it.

Conformism and shallow Content won’t just go away.

It’ll always be there in some form.

The most important part is just finding your way of becoming unique.

So if I can leave you off with something, then it’s to enjoy the process and do whatever you want with your content.

And that’s it! Until next Saturday ;)
